| Exposure: | 30 minutes on Kodak Ektachrome 200 (Pushed +1) |
| Camera: | Nikon FG camera and Nikkor 50mm lens at f/4 clamped to the counterweight of my Vixen Super Polaris. |
| Notes: | Portrait of the constellation Leo. Hopefully this one isn't too boring! If you look closely on the largest size, you can see the Leo Trio of galaxies as a few faint snowflakes near the bottom left of the photograph. |
| Processing: | I used my own homemade technique for diffusing the brightest stars just slightly to highlight the shape of Leo. Is it too subtle or fake? To begin, I used a median filter to blur out all but the brightest stars. This was then augmented with a touch of gaussian blur, and blended in with the original at 50% with the Lighten mode in Photoshop. |
